Publication Awards

The Institute for the Brain and Cognitive Sciences (IBACS) Publication Award provides UConn researchers with financial assistance for journal submission and publication fees.

About the Award

The costs to publish in journals can be high — and they’re only increasing. IBACS Publication Awards help UConn researchers submit to journals that are otherwise prohibitively expensive. The awards include:

  • A lump sum, up to $1.5k to cover all publication costs.
  • Up to 50% of the costs with a $3k cap on IBACS contribution.

Award recipients are responsible for covering any costs over the award amount.

Eligibility and Conditions

Successful applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • The work is already approved for publication.
  • The applicant is a current faculty, graduate student, or postdoctoral research affiliate.
  • Proof of financial need is required. Our goal is to support the publication of work for which there are no other resources.
  • If the IBACS award will not cover all costs, then the applicant must submit an explanation of how they will cover the remaining amount.

The Institute will also weigh the following priorities when considering applications:

  • Priority will be given to:
    • Work directly supported by IBACS.
    • First-time applicants.
  • A single applicant group (e.g., lab) is not eligible for two awards in one academic year.

IBACS is willing to review different scenarios on a case-by-case basis. Contact the IBACS Program Coordinator to discuss.

Please note that this award is reviewed annually and may not be available every year.

Become an Affiliate

Publication Awards are open only to faculty, postdoctoral, and graduate student affiliates. If you are not currently an IBACS affiliate, please complete the affiliate membership form before applying.
